The Beach Volleyball facility, located in Balneario Boquerón in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, is one of many facilities that were developed to serve as hosts for the “Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe” and to later serve future international Beach Volleyball competitions. The project consisted in the construction of concrete bleachers for a capacity 435 spectators, and temporary bleachers for another 1,800 people. Four beach volleyball courts with pre-selected sand and equipment serve as the main event of the project. Electrical and plumbing installations accommodated throughout the site serve a variety of concession stands, temporary press rooms and medical offices located around the facility. A new landscape ties the project together to provide the Beach Volleyball events with a comfortable ambiance. One of the major challenges of the project was locating the plan in its context while maintaining abundant vegetation and accommodating a large program. Combining program spaces and using temporary structures allowed for this design to be efficiently accomplished.
